    3. How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in the composition?

Color is used really well in this composition. I think that the green and blue dominate in the concept reinforcing the green theme we are going for with the project. The pictures of the landscape that is green, blue and a hint of white along with the browns in the hill side and the sprinklers seem to divide the image to show many different forms of water and how it is used. The baby on the left of the image with it’s clear skin and blue eyes let the viewer know that they are our future while also flowing with the other colors in the picture. The blues and browns are alike, but different in the picture giving contrast yeat the over all water texture lets the eyes flow from one image to another. Color is also used to give a cool temperature to the composition.
    Great job!

How effectively was the concept of “green-ness” explored? Do you think that this student used the elements of value, texture and color effectively to enhance the concept, how did the branding of the song interplay if at all?

“Green-ness” was fully explored in this composition. The images chosen show 2 natural resources for water, a stream and a giant waterfall, which illustrates the variety of places and forms in which water is important to everyday life. A child’s face illustrates the need to conserve water for the next generation and an irrigation system shows both how water is used by us to sustain life as well as a potential place water can be abused. A water-ripple overlay ties the composition together, imparting a liquid texture on each image used. Also, each image gradually flows into each other, the values and hues of the colors blending together. The song lyrics “it cannot wait” are placed above the image and work well with the theme of sustainability playing within the image.

What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Would this design work well as a billboard or for multi-purpose advertising? Does the concept of sustainability as far as water the strongest focus of the piece? Please explain in detail.

I think the compositon would work well for multi-purpose advertising. Like in Newspapers,Magazines, etc. rather than an actual billboard. I feel that this particualr composition is made for printed materials for public reading. It gives off that “feel” for me. Though I feel that the “it cannot wait” text takes away from it rather than enhance the composition.

Chuck did a wonderful job displaying the texture in this composition. The water drop overlaid on the image gives the entire project the immpression that water is peaceful. And while the “water ripple” was throughout the entire image, it in no way was too much for the project. It presents just enough to make the viewer understand. Way to go Chuck.

    Composition critiqued: Chuck
Color is used in the composition in a very lulling way. The colors almost blend from one to the next and don’t jar the eye. The dominating color is the shades of green. Through the middle and a major portion on the left, the greens really serve to reinforce a “renew, reuse, recycle” concept without being too preachy. The stark white text on this composition draws your attention at first, then lets your eye travel to the waterfall, then back around to the baby. The inclusion of the baby in the bottom corner serves to balance the sandstone color of the cliff wall on the right, and your eye travels from one item to the next fairly easily.

Great job. I believe this image could be used as billboard advertising. I think the use of different images of water helps focus on water as valuable resource and the wording used tell us its Water Sustainability. I would change the font type that is not so blocky and add texture and value to give it more of a pop.

Q2. What role does texture have in the composition? (Detail, pattern, space, and/or design). Be specific, if texture missing or weak include that also.
A2. The layering on the image makes the picture look like the wind is blowing from the center-left side. The texture is very visible in this design because it is waves that run through the entire image. The way you combined the pictures together gives the impression that the child is learning by looking at how the water is being used. Did you make that rainbow in your image? I wanted to make one, butrun out of time. Nice job!

    Chuck,

    4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?

What is potentially happening between the steps is that the letter “C” is splitting and then resolving into the shapes of the two wheels while the chili pepper icon at the bottom of the composition is resolving into the shape of an early model Chevelle (one of my favorite cars and the color is awesome). The continuity between the steps works rather well and upon a second and third viewing I really get the true sense of the transformation. There is one part that the continuity does not work for me though. While we see a gradual, almost too gradual, transformation during the first 5 images, we then get a sense of having to sprint to the finish line for the last two images. If the photo of the car had been introduced in image 6 and faded into the background a little it would lessen the jolt that we get. All-in-all, an excellent sequence.
