. What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Is there enough contrast between each of the seven images to get a true feeling of chromatic metamorphosis, explain? If not also explain?
First off I would like to say how much I like the sequence. The piece very simply flows from one sequence to the next through use of integrated shapes. The letter c transforms into the tires of a car which is a very natural transition for the circle to be completed from the letter c and then transformed to the tires. The leaf is changed unto the car body, which using the curve in the beginning shows a similar style to the car body. I think that this composition was well thought out and well done. The composition transitions through the sequences great and leaves a feeling of a metamorphosis. Great Job!

    2-Project 3 Critique—Balance

    2. What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus?
Does either change between the steps or do they remain the same throughout the steps?
    Be specific in answers

The balance of an image depends upon the size of the various objects or elements in an image with larger objects having more visual weight and how the objects are placed and grouped within an image. Also darker colored images have more visual weight relative to lighter images.

The images are symmetrically balanced throughout the metamorphosis by the placement of the various elements of each image. The trees are distributed across the illustration to provide repetition and rhythm as well as balance for each image in the metamorphosis.

The point of focus of an image is the place in an image around which all the other elements are balanced and if you view the design as a scale, the point of focus is the fulcrum. Larger images appear to have more visual weight than smaller images. The group of image elements have a combined weight.

The road is the point of focus around which the other image elements are placed to balance the overall image.

For the first image the road is simply an upward slanting black line. The tree images are positioned along this line. The large C initial image is placed above and to the left of the road line and a small body image placed below and to the right. The overall image is a wide angle or distance view of the road.

For the second image the road is again the focus. The tree images are again positioned along the road. The C initial image is smaller and placed above and to the left side of the image. The body image is bigger in scale or size and moves closer to the center of the road and is again below and to the right side of the image. The body image actually partially touches or intersects the road. The overall image is a closer or tighter view of the road and trees.

For the third image of the road is again the focus. The tree images are again positioned along the road. The C initial is now two smaller C images which are smaller than the previous single C image and again placed above and to the left side of the image. One of the initial C images is touching or crossing the road. The body image is made even bigger and closer to the road and intersecting with it. The overall image is again a closer or tighter view of the road and trees.

For the fourth image the road is made wide and changes color from black to olive. The trees are along the road consists of two different sizes and colors. There are again two initial C letters which are smaller than previous image and both are now positioned below the road but still on the left side of the image. The body image is bigger and is mostly below the road and again fills the right side of the image.

For the fifth image the road is made even wider giving it even more visual weight. The green leafed trees are larger while the pale green trees are smaller. The two C initial images are rounder and positioned on either side of the road with one actually on the road again on the left side of the image. The body image is larger and positioned over the road to the right side of the image. The body image has considerably more visual weight because of its larger size and also relative to the now small C initial images.

For the sixth image both the road and trees are wider and bigger and thus have more visual weight. The road continues to be the point of focus. The two C initial images are now round tire wheels of the car image and positioned on the left side of the car body image for the rear and front wheels. The car image is now much larger and occupies both the left and right side of the image. The overall image is a tighter or close-up view of the car.

For the seventh image the point of focus is the road with the photo of the car placed in the center of image. Again the trees are placed to balance the image with three photos of trees along the road with the sky and clouds as background. This is a tight close-up view of the car. The road is now darker and given more texture giving it more visual weight. The photo of the car greatly increases its visual weight.

By changing the size, position and color value of the various image elements balance was maintained for each image by having an even distribution of the visual weight. The various images have implied motion along the road from left to right.

This project is a very excellent implementation of balance throughout the various images.

    Well done.

The quality over all of the design and composition is very unique and creative. It is a lot different then most of the other compositions but in a very good way. I really like how the objects of the first piece form the last image. There is definitely a good flow feeling throughout the entire piece. Things do not change too much between each of the images. I love the simplicity of the first image compared the complexity of the last image. You did an amazing job!

    1. Name three ways using color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence?

I think Chuck did an outstanding job on this project. The color really gives life to the project. The way he made some parts blurry gave the feel that the items were in the distance and the red car really stands out and draws your attention to the piece. And the green “C” changing into black to become the tires really added a lot.

    3 – Project 3 Critique – Perspective
    3. How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?

    Chuck
Wow your picture of the car got transformed fron a leaf to a car, it looks really good! the picture starts with a few three-dimentional objects and increases as the images progress, so I think that the perspective of this images is working for this project. I think this image uses linear perspective because the car is leading up the road from left to right and so are the lines on the road and the trees. I definitively think that it enhances the composition. It began with some two-dimensional shapes and as it passed through the next images in the sequence , he added more depth to his images until it looked the way it does in the last image. I think it is one of the best sequences I have seen. I really like it!

Thank you for reading my comment.

    Chuck,

What a creative piece! Balance is always maintained in the piece, although not symmetrical balance. From the second slide, when the three larger leaves become prominent, it’s almost as if you have used the rule of thirds to create a balanced backdrop for the metamorphosis. You did a great job of using color and value, as well as arrangement to maintain the balance of the different slides, and the transition from slide to slide was very fluid. Great work!

    4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?

I think this was really great! What is happening is that he used a pepper or something like that to make the object metamorphosis into a car the same color the object was. As you clicked on a different slide the pepper starts to form more and more like a car. It was effective because the seven steps was what it took to make the pepper turn into the car. The continuity is working for this metamorphosis. Great job chuck!
